I am an older lady born in April 1955 (just missed being an April Fool's Baby by a mere hour). My best friend from high school and I were married in 1974. My sweetie is retired. (Finally!) He has spent so many years working away from home first on the oil rigs and then at gas processing plants. These days are spent enjoying each others company and working on all the things we love to do.
We reside in northern Alberta, Canada east of a small town named Fairview. Surrounded by miles of very flat prairie farmland - we truly have a fair view of the land with a huge dome of sky. Our home is on fifty-eight acres; fruit trees and bushes, flowering trees and shrubs, a garden and wonderful flowerbeds surround the house and shop. It is gorgeous.
We have two boys. Elder and his wife live in the nearest city to the south. They have two children. Youngest lives 1100km at the opposite end of British Columbia with his family.
Short and not so short, succinct points about me:
- At one point a hairdresser labelled my hair as dirty ash brown… thrilled I was, simply thrilled. On an interesting note, I have always had a lock of white hair over my right ear. Looking in the mirror I am surprised to see it is all dirty ash grey now ;)
- My colours are brown, gold, orange, and deep red; you can easily lose me in the autumn woods.
- My height is 5 feet and I am an extremely casual dresser. I hate shopping for clothes.
- I have hazel eyes which reflect my moods. Ever notice how many heroines do not have hazel eyes. Wait, that didn’t come out right. Have you ever noticed how few heroines have hazel coloured eyes? Or are really short!
- Arthritis has been a part of my life since my mid-twenties. Worst affected has been my hands.
- Also around this time I lost most of my hearing. Two surgeries restored hearing in one ear. It is not perfect but I can hear. Spring 2026 -- I now have a bone implant hearing aid!
- An identity crisis has ruled my entire life.
- I'm ambi-dextrous.
My interests are probably more numerous that’s wise to contemplate:
- Chocolate & Coffee.
- Coffee & Chocolate.
- Baking and cooking and trying new recipes.
- Computers: linux and maintaining a static website with Zola
- I love all things fibre related: sewing, knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, fabric printing - I know I'm missing something. I also enjoy drawing, crafting, writing - what ever catches my fancy really. ; )
- Growing things has always been a love, ever since I was a toddler sitting in the garden eating worms and dirt.
The living surrounding us:
- Canaries: Small variegated and yellow/orange birds with red factor lines, twelve in all. A new nesting season is in full swing with seven hens setting.
- Aquarium fish: Assorted fancy gold fish, green-gold and peppered cories, and a bristlenose plecostomas in a 77 gallon bow-front tank.
- Black and Tan canines: we are blessed with a four year old Rottweiler female Chewie/Bonus/Klepto. Our last black and tan long-haired mindiature dachshund, Chirpa Song Weaver is fourteen. Sadly we lost Chripa fall of 2025.
- Houseplants: I've filled every window I can get away with. Anything which can survive a wee bit of neglect thrives. It feels like an indoor farm looking at the trays of chickweed, greens and brocolli for the canaries.
