from the ever interesting Art for Housewives came the link to these little gems from Bugknits. Althea Crome knits with silk thread and super fine lace wool and needles made from wire. She sells incredibly small stainless steel needles, ranging from 1.00mm down to .25mm on her site. (peers at ruler and goes back to Bugknits to check sizes again; back over to knitting needles and measures them...again; decides there must be something wrong with my eyes .25mm needles!)
My needles shown in the knitting dolly are 2mm or 14UK. The needles for sale on Bugknits are size 20UK (1.mm) to 27UK (.25mm). On her home page there is a video, featuring Ms. Crome describing her knitting used in the film Coraline. I am in total awe seeing her actually knitting one of her gorgeous little sweaters.
Ms. Crome has even posted a free pattern for 1:12 scale baby booties and a child's hat, if you are feeling adventurous or feeling like knitting your way through a Lilliputian land. (Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that is an American dime she has set in the centre of the bootees... a dime!) Edited 2025:02:19: As I re-entered this post into my new blog I found she has rebranded her website, no longer offering free patterns. She does have some of her finished miniture knit clothing for sale. I love the little sweaters in clear glass balls made into earrings (Micro Sweater Earrings)!
Now that I am sufficiently humbled, I think I will go find my super bulky yarn, my pointy broomsticks and round up a pattern.
hmmm, I wonder if I could collect spiderwebs and knit up a blanket...?
