Stuffed and sound asleep
The pictures I took yesterday were out of focus. Cause: shaky hands, old eyes and tiny phone. Effect: white fuzzy blurs, black eyes and bright red mouths exhibiting no details. Okay, today take two. The chicks parents fed them so well, even an intruding human finger didn't disturb their sleep. I was sad I missed the upright heads and wide open beaks. Their mouths are a bright red. Kind of scary when you see in out of focus snaps actually. Maybe catching them snugly settled in their nest was the better photograph after all.
This nest is from Lily and Minstrel. She laid seven eggs and best I can tell without being too intrusive, six of them hatched. I give them fresh egg food three times a day. If the dish gets emptied Lily scolds poor Minstrel. I'm sorry fellow; it's all my fault and I don't know how to tell her! When she leaves the nest to eat the egg food Minstrel always sits on the nest watching the nest until she comes back to feed them. He then takes his turn to eat and feed the chicks. Even though his mate is eating her own food, he still feeds her when she is on the nest. Kind of precious to see.
The other two hens have one and two chicks respectively. These mothers are still not leaving their nests and their mates are feeding both hens and chicks. Eventully they will have to leave, off-spring of any ilk tend to get restless when over confined!
My sweetie has completed the new cage rack he has been building over the past few weeks. This will give the birds much more flying room than they have presently. I will take pictures one morning when the sun is shining in... may-be in focus, may-be not! ;) Before I can get to that, I have a raft of paper work to do as my mother's Power of Attorney. And my procrastinating self kicks in and I'm anywhere but at my desk!
