You know it has been cold when: -20C feels balmy. It is a relief to open the door and be able to breathe the frigid air rushing past you. Make it a double dose of relief when the dogs are actually willing to go outside after requesting door service.
The view out the windows has been grey and soul draining. The vibrant colours of fall have leached to a dreary brownish/greenish tint in a world of white, grey, and more white. I crave colour even more than chocolate at this time of year... honest! Well, once this month may-be. But there are soul refreshing spots to treasure. While returning library books the other evening I discovered, tucked away in a hidden corner, a touch of wonder. There behind a service station, on the edge of the parking lot, was a beautiful snow covered spruce. Someone had draped the tree with large, old fashioned Christmas lights. Snow now covered of the branches; each bulb's light softened, causing the snowy branches to glow magically in the night.
❝ How full of the creative genius is the air in which these are generated! I should hardly admire more if real stars fell and lodged on my coat. Nature is full of genius, full of divinity, so that not a snowflake escapes it's fashioning hand.❞

Out side snow is falling. The big, white, fluffy flakes: the perfect crystal formations elude my efforts to photograph. In a google search you will find incredible examples of snowflakes. SnowCrystals has been my favourite site to visit for a number of years now.
Sure glad we reside on high ground. (All is relative, of course, I mean we are living in the muskeg {the northern version of the southern swamp land only with lots of peat, stumpy tree, birch shrub, black bears and moose} and muskeg is internationally famous {okay, locally} for containing no high ground, nada). But this week I was and continue to be extremely thankful for land which is higher than the creek at the other end of our property.

Libby Lu has a trademarked look. THE LOOK that lets you know you have erred. THE LOOK that lets you know immediately her estimation of your feeble intelligence. THE LOOK all miniature dachshunds master under the ear pulling, not so gentle tuition of their loving moms. After all, they could end up in the snowbound nether regions of the continent. No, wait that was Libby instructing her pups!
This morning I was propelled out of bed much earlier than this night-owl's accepted point of rising. My leg was wet; the bed was wet; the feather duvet was soaked! "EEEPPEEEE!" !!The Princess and the Pee!! has struck the Master Bedroom! No, wait, just a snowballed, heat seeking wiener taking refuge. Pheww. But label me so wide awake further sleep is the last thing I am capable of.
I'm too scared click on the link to Environment Canada❄, too scared to look at the thermometer, the skies, anywhere, but my mug of café mocha. I will give you a hint though - heavy snowfall warning... and it's the 13th of April!
