:: Finish Your Dang Projects

Reve of ReveDreams.com caught my attention with her new challenge. "Finish Yer Dang Projects". She made a list of items to finish off and has invited all to play along with her. Since I am a past master of unfinished projects, I thought it would be interesting to join. The thought of getting unfinished projects out of my prime creating spaces sent me into my boxes and piles to pick my first project... Big mistake! I couldn't begin to select any one thing to begin FYD Projects and the thought of listing everything sent me reeling to the couch for some canine cuddle therapy...

:: it Surrounds You Everywhere

The view out the windows has been grey and soul draining. The vibrant colours of fall have leached to a dreary brownish/greenish tint in a world of white, grey, and more white. I crave colour even more than chocolate at this time of year... honest! Well, once this month may-be. But there are soul refreshing spots to treasure. While returning library books the other evening I discovered, tucked away in a hidden corner, a touch of wonder. There behind a service station, on the edge of the parking lot, was a beautiful snow covered spruce. Someone had draped the tree with large, old fashioned Christmas lights. Snow now covered of the branches; each bulb's light softened, causing the snowy branches to glow magically in the night.

Out side snow is falling. The big, white, fluffy flakes: the perfect crystal formations elude my efforts to photograph. In a google search you will find incredible examples of snowflakes. SnowCrystals has been my favourite site to visit for a number of years now.

I have always heard the phrase, “There are enough hours in the day to accomplish what is important to you.” Yet, I pressure myself to fill every hour with a plan and must accomplish. I have a to do list (more of a binder full) that would make a turbo charged super hero weep in despair.

It's a big day in the household. Time to drain the pond and bring the koi and goldfish indoors to their winter quarters. We are really doing this for the fish, but Libby is all a twitter. She is just vibrating with excitement. When vibrating with excitement involves Liberty Bella Gonloco it means the bark, the Bark, The BARK or "and I have hearing aides for this!?!" I'm not sure how the, "Gone to Ground" bark relates to fish, but in this little girl's brain it surely does.

Libby loves visiting Kneesaa and Logray. She can't wait to see her two puppies... toys. She can't wait to dig in the bonsai. She can't wait to steal, yell, dig, eat and generally be the hyper kid... er, dog, you wish (pray) your parents will leave at home. Everything, and I mean everything Kneesaa and Logray know better to do, Libby had a blast with. All this buzzing motion accompanied by her staccato, metronome worthy, ear piercing bark. Ah, Libby Lu.

In the midst of this Dachshund heaven, Brandy started showing Libby the aquariums. Ohhh, fish! and holding Libby becomes problematic. No matter the distance to the aquarium, "Let me at-em!" From that point on she was intense and focused, attempting to: clamber up the fireplace to the aquarium there; psyching her self to leap from the back of the sofa to the aquarium on the room divider. Then she discovered the 90 gallon tank housing an oscar.

Starting a new project is always exciting. You pet the yarn, admire the tiny skeins of yarn. You print out the pattern and select the appropriate hook. You lay everything out for a beauty shot, lift the camera to the eye... and in that instance one tiny, exquisitely perfect skein disappears!

:: Rhubarb Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting

Every year I celebrate the arrival of the rhubarb, doing a happy dance when the green nubs pop out of the snow, The first stalks I harvest aren't much longer than my wee hand, but I can't wait to chew on the crisp red stalks. As the stalks grow I pull out all my favourite rhubarb recipes and start cooking. After all the years of recipe collecting you would think I would have a copy of any wild recipe out there. But my mum surprised me with a new cookie recipe.

But you can never have enough recipes for rhubarb, right? .... at least until the strawberries are ripe!
